Ed, forty, the ex-Climate Change Secretary, is the sole other runner to claim he’ll stand so far and 2nd favorite at seven / two.

They are prepared to be joined by former Health and Children’s Secretaries Andy Burnham and Ed Balls, who are both at 12 / one, together with Jon Cruddas, the sixteen / one left-wing backbencher, in a five-horse race. But most attention will be targeted on the bros fighting it out for the top job, the most recent twist in their superb family story. That’s the reason why we need a Labour Party which gets back in contact with the folks that did not vote for us at this election, so we will again have a presidency which will put your interests first. The Socialists should be a party people can be happy to support again – that is the type of party I might need to guide and the sort of party I would like to build. But first we want to understand what failed. I believe the rationale our party lost so many electorate is that folk thought we had lost a feeling of who we stand up for. Don’t misunderstand me.

I’m incredibly happy with our record. The minimum wage, tax breaks, children’s centers, investment in colleges and infirmaries have transformed our country. But we should face facts. Folks felt we lost our way. Folk did not know how the people in the Town who got us into this recession could get away with making millions, while they were attempting to survive. Folks failed to see the new roles being made for their children to do or the new houses being built for them and their families to live in. They were worried when they saw folks who could work and were not doing so. And while I will never compromise on my faith in a long suffering and various Britain, they believed we did not take seriously enough the impact they felt immigration was having on their salary and livelihoods.

When you lose an election, the sole good thing is you’ve an opportunity to take stock, understand what occurred and set a new direction. For me, that new direction starts with some pretty basic values. Being Labour means you have a belief in giving each person, not simply the rich, the opportunity to get on in life. That’s the reason why good childcare, faculties and roles are so important. Being Labour means we have a belief in a country where we look after one another, and do not leave folks to sink or swim. So we need the best health service and we want to look after the aged. Being Labour means when you are facing tricky calls, you mostly remember who wants the helping hand of govt – industrious folk up and back down this country.
